Robert Finkel, founder and president of Prism Capital, has joined the Governing Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, effective July 2008.
For the last eighteen years he has been investing as part of the Chicago private equity community. As Managing Partner, Finkel has recruited and coordinated two investment teams and has overseen equity fund deployment into fourteen portfolio companies and mezzanine fund deployment into twenty companies.
"Robert Finkel's experience in the world of venture capital will bring a valuable perspective to the Bulletin. As we move the Bulletin into the rapidly changing new media landscape, Robert's knowledge about technology start-ups will be very relevant to us," said Cathryn Cronin Cranston, board chair and executive vice president of Mansueto Ventures.
Finkel received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BA from Johns Hopkins University. He has been quoted in Business Week, and featured on MSNBC's Last Call talking about private equity.
"We are fortunate to have Robert join the Governing Board at a time when the Bulletin is growing and building in a tumultuous financial environment. We will benefit enormously from his boundless curiosity and strategic intelligence," said Kennette Benedict, executive director and publisher of the Bulletin.
Finkel currently serves on the Boards of Artromick, Inc. and SterilMed, Inc., and is a founder and former chair of the Illinois Venture Capital Association, from which he received the prestigious Fellows Award. He also received on Prism's behalf the Private Equity Fund Manager of the Year for both 2007 and 2008 at Opal's Emerging Manager Conference.
