Bulletin Governing Board member Harold A. Richman died on Thursday, July 30, 2009, in Chicago.
Richman was the Hermon Dunlap Smith Professor Emeritus of Social Welfare Policy at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. In 1985, he founded Chapin Hall, a research center focused on influencing child welfare policies both nationally and internationally. He served as its director from 1985 to 2001; he continued as a research fellow until his retirement in 2009. During Richman’s tenure as director, Chapin Hall grew from a group of five researchers to a staff of more than 100.
Richman's work with the Bulletin began in June 2006, when he became a member of the Bulletin's Governing Board. He remained a member until his death.
