The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists welcomes Jessica McKenzie as an associate editor overseeing the organization’s climate change coverage. She joins the Bulletin on Oct. 18.
“Jessica has long and deep experience in nature and science journalism that makes her an excellent addition to our editorial team,” said Bulletin editor in chief John Mecklin. “She’ll have an instrumental role in helping the public and policy makers recognize and understand their roles in managing man-made threats to humanity.”
McKenzie has most recently been an independent journalist writing for National Geographic, The New York Times, Audubon Magazine, Grist, and other publications. She was previously the managing editor of the civic tech news site Civicist and interned at The Nation Magazine.
She has won awards or honorable mentions from the Society for Advanced Business Editing and Writing, the North American Agricultural Journalists Writing Awards, and The Newswomen’s Club of New York.
McKenzie is a graduate of Barnard College in New York.
When she’s not writing, she is often gardening or hiking. McKenzie has thru-hiked three long trails to date: Vermont’s Long Trail, the Northville-Placid Trail in New York, and the Cohos Trail in New Hampshire.
