Ali is head of the nuclear law department at Egypt’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority. He earned a doctorate in political science from Cairo University in 2005. He has been a fellow in the Nuclear and Treaty Law Section of the Office of Legal Affairs at the International Atomic Energy Agency and a visiting research scholar at the University of New Mexico Institute for Public Policy. He is co-author, with Fawzy H. Hammad, of Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones: a Comparative Analytic Study and The Establishment of a Nuclear-Weapon and Other-Weapon-of-Mass-Destruction-Free Zone in the Middle East: Challenges and Opportunities.
