The Bulletin is thrilled to welcome Rambo Talabong as assistant multimedia editor and Nick Horowitz as assistant director of digital products.
Talabong is a New York-based multimedia editor who covers the intersection of science, technology, and global security. His reporting has appeared in The New York Times, Inside Climate News, Grist, and Eos.
He led the coverage of the Duterte administration’s drug war for Rappler, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Philippine newsroom. His work has been recognized by the Society of Publishers in Asia, the Human Rights Press Awards in Hong Kong, and the Global Investigative Journalism Network. He is also a fellow of the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics and the Overseas Press Club Foundation.
He studied data journalism at Columbia University and science journalism at New York University. He speaks English, Tagalog, and Spanish.
“Rambo’s a great addition not just to our multimedia team, but to our overall editorial effort,” Editor in Chief John Mecklin said. “His work for the now-legendary, Nobel Prize-winning Philippine news outlet Rappler included award-winning investigations into the vicious drug war conducted by former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. I expect his work for the Bulletin will be equally noteworthy.”
Horowitz is a digital products and platforms expert with experience in technology management and data analytics, with experience working for a variety of organizations in the arts, public media, and online gaming. Previously, he was the Director of Digital Operations at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and a Membership Data Administrator at Cascade Public Media. He specializes in data visualization, digital strategy, product management, and fundraising systems. He holds a BA in Media Technologies and Cultures from Indiana University and is a lifelong IU football fan. Beyond his work in nonprofit computing, he enjoys travel, cooking, and craft beer.
“We’re delighted to have Nick join the team,” said Chief Audience Officer John Pope. “The technical skills and experience in the nonprofit and media sectors that he brings mean that he’ll be able to hit the ground running.”
