2018 Annual Report

By | May 30, 2019

I am delighted to present the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists 2018 Annual Report.

In today’s fast-changing and uncertain environment, the Bulletin serves as an authoritative guide that confronts man-made threats to our existence by advancing actionable ideas for the planet and its people. What you will see in this report is how the Bulletin is responding to today’s challenges. We are engaging new audiences, creating new partnerships, joining new platforms, and reshaping our messaging to support and mobilize the next generation. With your support, the Bulletin has a tremendous opportunity to improve the health and safety of our planet.

The report provides 2018 highlights from our award-winning publication and program outreach. It offers a snapshot of our overall financial health as well as background on how the Bulletin will serve future generations and their quest to grapple seriously with the political and ethical consequences of scientific advancement.

For your convenience and sharing ability, the report may also be viewed online here

Our report allows you to:

  • Look back at programs held across the country – in galleries and museums; at the Art’s Club of Chicago, Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and the Santa Fe Opera; at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics with Madeleine Albright; and thought-provoking dinners and lunches in San Francisco and Chicago.
  • Get to know Erin Connolly and Kate Hewitt, the 2018 Leonard M. Rieser Award recipients.
  • Read about the factors leading up to the 2019 Doomsday Clock setting and the Clock statement – It is still 2 minutes to midnight.
  • Get a snapshot of Annual Dinner remarks from: Executive Chair Jerry Brown, Rieser Award recipient Yangyang Cheng, Board of Sponsors Chair William J. Perry and keynote Ambassador Joseph Y. Yun; and learn about the Annual Meeting’s format and discussion topics.
  • Meet the leaders and donors who make our work possible and learn about the Legacy Society and Einstein Circle.

The world security situation will improve when leaders seek change and citizens demand it. Thank you for playing your part – together, we must turn back the Clock.

Sincerely,

Rachel Bronson, Ph.D.
President & Chief Executive Officer

We are grateful to Pentagram, the New York City-based design firm where former Bulletin Governing Board member Michael Bierut is a principal, for the design of our 2018 Annual Report.
