Gareth Evans holds a lengthy political career having served as Chancellor of the Australian National University, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader of the Labor Party, Leader of the Government in the Senate, and more.
After departing from his political career, he served as President and CEO of the International Crisis Group, a global conflict prevention and resolution organization.
Currently, Evans is a Distinguished Honorary Professor at the Australian National University. Evans has published multiple books including The Responsibility to Protect: Ending Mass Atrocity Crimes Once and For All (2008) and Inside the Hawke-Keating Government: A Cabinet Diary (2014).
He continues to contribute speeches and articles about nuclear risk, disarmament, and other defense topics.
