Roald Sagdeev

Roald Sagdeev is a Russian physics researcher and professor who was a director of the Space Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences and a former advisor to the Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

He has been awarded the Lenin Prize, Hero of Socialist Labor, and the Carl Sagan Memorial Award. Sagdeev is the author of The Making of a Soviet Scientist: My Adventures in Nuclear Fusion and Space (1994) and a co-author of Nonlinear Physics (1998).

He earned his PhD at Moscow State University in 1966 and currently is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland. He is also a Senior Advisor at the Albright Stonebridge Group.
