
Helen Caldicott is a prominent Australian physician, author, and anti-nuclear advocate. Born in 1938 in Melbourne, she specialized in pediatrics and founded the first cystic fibrosis clinic in Australia at the Adelaide Childrens Hospital in 1975. She was also on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. She gained global recognition for her tireless campaigns to educate the public about the medical and ecological hazards of nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and war, as a co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility in the United States. The author of eight books, including Missile Envy, Nuclear Madness, and her autobiography A Desperate Passion, she has been the recipient of 21 honorary doctorates and numerous other awards.
