A philosopher, Moreno is the David and Lyn Silfen University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also teaches medical ethics and the history and sociology of science. He is also a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. Moreno’s expertise is in bioethics, and his recent book Mind Wars: Brain Research and National Defense (2006) sparked widespread interest in ongoing defense neuroscience research. In his long professional career, Moreno has served on two presidential advisory committees and co-chaired the National Academies’ Committee on Guidelines for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research.
