
M.V. Ramana is the Simons Chair in Disarmament, Global and Human Security and a professor at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, University of British Columbia. He is the author of “The Power of Promise: Examining Nuclear Energy in India” (Penguin Books, 2012) and “Nuclear is not the Solution: The Folly of Atomic Power in the Age of Climate Change” (Verso Books, 2024). Ramana is a former member of the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board and is a member of the International Panel on Fissile Materials, the International Nuclear Risk Assessment Group, the Network of Scientific and Technical Research Institutions and Experts in Support of the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Canada, the Canadian Pugwash Group, and the team that produces the annual World Nuclear Industry Status Report. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Leo Szilard Award from the American Physical Society, and the 2026 Alliance for Nuclear Accountability DC Days award.
