Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of all database contact records and information in accordance with internal policies and privacy laws
  • Prepare content and oversee distribution of weekly newsletters, announcements, and other electronic communications
  • Ensure that the database of authors, experts, and e-newsletter subscribers is current
  • Produce regular reports for the Communications Director to be shared with the Advancement Committee and Governing Board
  • Track statistics, demographics and traffic patterns of the Bulletin’s website visitors
  • Document the impact of Bulletin articles and features in policy/government circles, media, and popular culture
  • Manage registrations and communications for on-going activities including global teleconferences, webinars, and Chicago-based events
  • Track social media statistics (followers/following) on a weekly basis
  • Participate in regular improvements to the Bulletin’s website
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and platforms for communications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Interest in international affairs, public policy, science/technology, or related discipline a plus
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a high-level of computer proficiency, and strong internet research skills
  • Experience composing written communications and editing/proofreading material written by others
  • Efficient data entry skills and great attention to detail
  • Previous work experience with Salesforce, Google Analytics, iContact, Word and Excel programs required
  • Experience with Photoshop or other photo editing software a plus
  • Experience with basic HTML and the WordPress content management system preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to use appropriate resources to solve an issue
  • Must be comfortable working in a busy office environment and display strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain calm and courteous demeanor and to work productively despite heavy workload, competing priorities, and complex problems
  • Flexibility to take on other duties as assigned
  • Must display commitment to the mission and vision of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
