Position Description

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists seeks a Development Coordinator to support the daily operations of the Development team. In addition to acting as the Bulletin’s Salesforce database administrator, this position will involve extensive planning and execution of special programs and events as assigned by the Development Director. This position reports to the Development Director and is located at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of all database contact records and information in accordance with internal policies and privacy laws
  • Ensure that the database of donors, prospects, and e-newsletter subscribers includes current contact information, giving history, and any relevant cultivation/background information
  • Produce monthly gift reports for the President and Development Director to be shared with the Advancement Committee and other board members as needed
  • Produce custom reports and manage mailing lists for fundraising initiatives and events
  • Manage registrations and communications for special programs and the Annual Dinner
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of briefing packets and direct mail pieces
  • Enter all individual gifts received online or via mail into Salesforce
  • Deposit all gifts received via mail into the bank
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for the Finance Director
  • Produce official donor thank you letters for the President and Development Director
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for fundraising efforts


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a high-level of computer proficiency, and strong internet research skills
  • Interest in international affairs, public policy, science/technology, or related discipline a plus
  • Experience composing written communications and editing/proofreading material written by others
  • Efficient data entry skills and great attention to detail
  • Previous work experience with Salesforce strongly desirable
  • Advanced proficiency in Word and Excel strongly desired
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to use appropriate resources to solve an issue
  • Must be comfortable working in a busy office environment and display strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain calm and courteous demeanor and to work productively despite the heavy workload, competing priorities, and complex problems
  • Flexibility to take on other duties as assigned
  • Must display commitment to the mission and vision of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
