The March for Science

By | March 14, 2017

The Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ended the 2017 Doomsday Clock Statement with these words: “Wise public officials should act immediately, guiding humanity away from the brink. If they do not, wise citizens must step forward and lead the way.

On April 22nd, wise citizens will lead the way with a global March for Science, and the Bulletin will stand with them. The troubling spread of fake news and the growing disregard for expertise erodes democratic institutions and the informed citizenry upon which they rely. It also puts a straightjacket onto technological research and innovation. The Bulletin would like to encourage our readers and supporters to participate in the March for Science, either in Washington, D.C., Chicago, or at one of the hundreds of satellite marches happening globally.

Ways to participate:

Show up! Visit the March for Science website and find satellite marches near you. Can’t get out that day? Participate digitally. Find out how by visiting the official March for Science registration page.

Advocate for continued, robust public funding of scientific research. Learn how by watching these videos at the Union of Concerned Scientists website. Scientists can attend the UCSUSA training on April 21st in Washington, D.C.

Use your social media channels to help publicize the March for Science. On Twitter follow @ScienceMarchDC, @MarchforScienceChi, @LDNsciencemarch, or one of the many satellite marches. Like their Facebook pages as well, and be sure to share posts with your friends and associates.

The March for Science is a nonpartisan event, because science is not a partisan issue. We encourage you to stand with us, and be counted.

Together, we make the world safer.

The Bulletin elevates expert voices above the noise. But as an independent nonprofit organization, our operations depend on the support of readers like you. Help us continue to deliver quality journalism that holds leaders accountable. Your support of our work at any level is important. In return, we promise our coverage will be understandable, influential, vigilant, solution-oriented, and fair-minded. Together we can make a difference.
