New roles for Bulletin editors Drollette, Field

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists promoted Dan Drollette Jr. and Matthew Field to help bolster editorial operations and further strengthen its mission to equip the public, policymakers, and scientists with the information needed to reduce man-made threats to humanity.

Drollette is now executive editor of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ bi-monthly digital magazine. In this new role, he will oversee daily magazine operations under the leadership of John Mecklin, the Bulletin’s editor-in-chief. Drollette was previously deputy editor of the Bulletin.

Field is now editor for the Bulletin’s disruptive technology coverage. He was previously an associate editor.

“Dan and Matthew have been invaluable contributors to the Bulletin’s success, and we are excited to have them take on new roles that will further strengthen the organization’s reputation as a go-to resource for issues pertaining to nuclear risk, climate change, and disruptive technologies,” Mecklin said.

Drollette joined the Bulletin in 2014. He is a science writer, editor and a foreign correspondent who has filed stories from every continent except Antarctica. He previously edited CERN’s on-line weekly magazine and is the author of “Gold Rush in the Jungle: The Race to Discover and Defend the Rarest Animals of Vietnam’s ‘Lost World.’”

Field joined the Bulletin in 2018. He has been a newspaper reporter and news producer for NHK Japan Broadcasting Corp.’s Washington, D.C. office where he covered the White House, Congress, and presidential campaigns.
