Allison Macfarlane

Allison Macfarlane is a professor of Science Policy and International Affairs at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, and director of the Institute for International Science and Technology Policy. She served as Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 2012 to 2014. From 2010 to 2012, she served on the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, created by the Obama administration to make recommendations about a national strategy for dealing with the nation’s high-level nuclear waste. She has served on National Academy of Sciences panels on nuclear energy and nuclear weapons issues and chaired the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board from 2008 to 2012. She holds a doctorate in geology from MIT.
