Jayantha Dhanapala
Jayantha Dhanapala (1938-2023) is a former UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs who served as the 11th President of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs.
He is also a former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States and to the UN office in Geneva. He is the author of Small Arms Control: Old Weapons (1999), New Issues and Regional Approaches to Disarmament: Security and Stability (1993), and two other books.
Dhanapala has been awarded four honorary doctorates as well as the Sean MacBride Prize from the International Peace Bureau.
