Adnan Shihab-Eldin

Adnan Shihab-Eldin is a senior visiting research fellow, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, and a board member of the Kearney Energy Transition Institute. He previously worked as research physicist at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and held academic and visiting scholar appointments, including at Kuwait University, UC Berkeley, Harvard University, and CERN. He was a member of the board of directors and the director general of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (retired). Shihab-Eldin held senior director positions at several intranational and multilateral organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), UN Education, Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO), and OPEC. He is a long-standing member of the Energy Permanent Monitoring Panel (PMP) of the World Federation of Scientists and serves as co-chair of its Management of Catastrophic Risks (MCR) PMP.

Shihab-Eldin is recipient of numerous scholastic recognitions and international awards, including the IAEE’s 2023 award for Outstanding Contributions to the profession, the 2022 Spirit of Salam Award (co-recipient) from the International Center for Theoretical Physics, and the 2017 Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award from the University of California, Berkeley.
