A nuclear engineer, Hanson serves as the executive vice president, technologies and used-fuel management at AREVA NC and director of the AREVA-subsidiary, Transnuclear. His specialty is in used fuel management, treatment, and transportation. Hanson began his career in 1975 with the nuclear services division of the Massachusetts-based Yankee Atomic Electric Company. In 1979, he joined the International Atomic Energy Agency, where he served as coordinator of the international spent fuel management program and later, as a policy analyst covering nuclear safeguards and nonproliferation.
