Andrei Lankov has taught since 2004 at Kookmin University in Seoul, and previously taught Korean history at the Australian National University. His major research interest is North Korean history and society. His major English-language publications include The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia and From Stalin to Kim Il Sung: The Formation of North Korea, 1945–1960. He earned a doctorate from Leningrad State University in 1989.
