Akkad is the head of the education and science department at the newspaper Al-Shorouk. Her work as a science journalist focuses on climate change, nanotechnology, and Egypt’s nuclear and space programs. She is a member of The Arab Science Journalists Association and a freelance writer for Nature Middle East. In 2004 she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University.
