Lawrence Freedman

Lawrence Freedman is a professor of war studies at King’s
College, London, and a vice principal of the college. A fellow of the
British Academy and the author of many books and articles on
international security matters, he was appointed Official Historian of
the Falklands Campaign in 1997. This article was first given as a
lecture at the Lowy Institute, Sydney, in February, under the
institute’s partnership with the Nuclear Security Project.
