Lora Saalman is vice president of the Asia-Pacific Program at the EastWest Institute. She formerly served as director of the China and Global Security Program at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). She taught at Tsinghua University and at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies and was an associate with the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy. She worked as a research associate at the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control and as a visiting fellow at the Observer Research Foundation, the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. She was the first American to earn a doctorate from Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations, completing all her coursework in Chinese. She remains affiliated with SIPRI as an associate senior fellow.
