Lucy Shapiro

Lucy Shapiro is a professor of developmental biology at Stanford University School of Medicine and is the Director of the Beckman Center for Molecular and Genetic Medicine. In 2018, she addressed the G20 Financial Governance group, and in 2019 the Armed Services Senate Committee, on the global infectious disease threat. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the US National Academy of Sciences, and the US National Academy of Medicine. Her work establishing a systems engineering understanding of the living cell has garnered her multiple awards. President Barack Obama awarded her the National Medal of Science in 2013
