Sailer is a director of the Oeko-Institut e.V., an institute for applied ecology in Germany with which he’s been affiliated since 1980. His expertise is in nuclear safety and radioactive waste management. He also serves as a member of the German Reactor Safety Commission and its committee on Plant and Systems Engineering. In addition, he is chairman of the newly founded German Waste Management Commission.
