Shrestha Rath is a doctoral student in the health security track at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research interests include biosecurity and the governance of emerging bioeconomies in the Global South. She previously worked at the Asia Centre for Health Security on nucleic acid synthesis screening and has engaged with open science and synthetic biology communities. A former UN Office for Disarmament Affairs Youth for Biosecurity fellow, she was part of the youth delegation to the 9th Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in biological sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, India.
