Xenia Cherkaev is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Social Anthropology at the Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University and is working on two projects: one about the customary use-rights inherent in socialist property law, another about the Soviet and Russian governance of domestic animals. Her publications have appeared in The American Historical Review, Cahiers du monde russe, Environmental Humanities, Anthropology and Humanism, Ab Imperio, Sotsiologiia Vlasti, Novoe Literaturnoe Obozrenie and “Fieldsights” of Cultural Anthropology.
