Yorgo El Moubayed

Yorgo El Moubayed is a program coordinator at the iGEM Foundation, running the world’s biggest synthetic biology competition. He focuses on developing synthetic biology ecosystems through research, education, and community-building while strengthening cultures of responsible innovation and risk management to bring safe and secure synthetic biology projects to the world. He is a 2021 iGEM Safety & Security fellow, a 2023 UN Office for Disarmament Affairs Youth for Biosecurity fellow. He has participated in several Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) delegations, and has prior experience in biolab automation, biomedicine production, and structure-guided drug design. With the International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS), he is supporting the development of the Common Mechanism, a globally available tool for DNA synthesis screening.
