A senior research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) at Tel Aviv University, Friedman served as director of the biological and chemical protection division in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Ministry of Defense. In both positions he worked on R&D projects in the field of chemical and biological defense.
