Nearly eight decades ago, the United States dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and, a few days later, on Nagasaki, Japan. That week in August changed the world forever; ever since, the world’s combined stockpile of nuclear weapons has risen and dropped, but the nuclear threat has not, by any means, dissipated.
